“It wasn’t super painful — just that nagging, chronic pain.”
“My name is Phil and I was dealing with some hamstring pains. Back in December I was doing a lateral lunge, felt something pop, and it didn’t feel great. It wasn’t super painful — just that nagging, chronic pain that was always there.
I kept training, running, doing all the things. I thought it would just work itself out. I didn’t think it was bad enough to see somebody, but the longer time went on I realized this is something I need to get looked at.
I tried to fix it on my own. I did hamstring exercises and strength work. I could do hamstring curls, but when I did RDLs, when I would hinge, I felt that tightness. I bootlegged my own little plan, but it’s tougher to follow through by yourself. A week goes by, two weeks go by, and it never happens.
I’m a fitness coach — personal training and group classes. Exercise and movement is super important to me. When I feel good with my workouts, that translates to all other aspects of my life. I’m a better friend and a better coach. The pain was limiting me. I wasn’t at my top level, and I wanted to get it fixed so I could give more to others.”
