From Shoulder Pain to PRs: Konrad’s CrossFit Story at Made 2 Move Daniel Island

“If I don’t start my day with CrossFit, then I’m missing something.”

“I would always watch the games every year and I’m always blown away by what they do… I was just always intrigued. When I first signed up to do the fundamentals, the coach went through everything and then I realized, yeah, it’s stuff that I do.

I love the community, I love the workouts — it’s something I’ve accomplished before 10 in the morning every day. I know what my limitations are and I’m not going to hurt myself knowing what my limitations are.

When I was at my worst, pushups were troublesome — my shoulders were really bad. Kipping pull-ups, the pushup portion of the burpee — that was probably the biggest thing. I’d say six months at least. I’d gone to a chiropractor… I had improvements through him, but I was looking for another angle and someone that could look at it a little bit differently.”

“If I don’t start my day with CrossFit, then I’m missing something.”

“I was tired of this bullshit.”

“My impression coming in — the professionalism from the get-go… wanting to understand what my problem was, really pinpointing exactly when it hurt doing certain moves. You could tell Emily was looking for the causes and trying to solve those, as opposed to going online and finding stretches.

We start every session with, ‘How you feeling?’ Looking at, ‘You’re saying you have a two out of 10 doing this — what is it?’ I rarely walk out doing the exact same thing for more than two consecutive sessions. She’ll always switch things up depending on what I’m working on or how I’m feeling.

There were always fit people in here — I thought that was pretty cool. I never had concerns coming in — it felt like the right place.”

“No problem… I had a PR there.”

“I had a session where my shoulders were feeling pretty good and my knees were pretty decent — we had presses and I had a PR there, and we had squats and I had a PR there.

Kipping pull-ups now? No problem. Knowing fundamentals better and being healthier in my shoulders — it’s not an issue anymore.

I’ve got maintenance on my shoulders and knees; I’ve got tight glutes and hamstrings, and my foot/ankle — a couple things that are current and then the maintenance of the prior ailments. We still message through TrainHeroic if something feels off. I like the idea of her helping me maintain — I don’t mind spending money on stuff I know I’m getting value on.

I would recommend Emily and Made to Move all day. The proof of how I feel is why — I’ve had shoulder issues that I don’t have anymore, knee issues where just getting off the couch hurt — now I can squat my PR. I want to be able to do that in 10 years, and I feel like I’ve been given the basis for being able to do that forever.”
