From IT Band Pain to Ironman Training: How Bianca Rediscovered Joy in Movement with Made 2 Move Charlotte

“It went from fun to frustrating really fast.”

“I was training for my first marathon — the Richmond Marathon — when I started to feel this pain on the outside of my knee. At first, it was just a small ache, but as I kept running, it got worse.

My knee would buckle mid-run. I pushed through the marathon anyway, but every run after that got harder.

Running had always been my outlet, my way to have fun after work. Suddenly, I was dreading it. Every run hurt. I tried everything — foam rolling, stretching, Epsom salt baths — all the things Google said to do. Nothing worked.”

She laughs. “I was trying so hard to fix it myself, but I just didn’t know what I didn’t know.”

“It went from fun to frustrating really fast.”

“Everyone said, ‘Go see Emily at Made 2 Move.’”

“I was getting ready for the Disney Dopey Challenge — four races in four days — and I was panicking. I reached out to my Charlotte running community asking if anyone knew a good physical therapist, and everyone said the same thing: ‘Emily at Made 2 Move.’

Emily actually texted me herself. She offered to meet just to talk — no charge, no pressure — and that alone was amazing.

When I came in for my first session, it felt completely different from any PT experience I’d ever had. She met me late because I worked after hours. She was smiling, welcoming, and actually listened. She didn’t tell me to stop running — she said, ‘Let’s get you back to doing what you love.’

She drew things out on the whiteboard, explained what was happening in my knee, and told me we’d figure it out together. I left that day smiling and hopeful — like, okay, I can do this.”

“I’d done PT before for a shoulder injury in high school,” Bianca said. “That felt cold, medical, like they were just trying to get people in and out. This was nothing like that. Made 2 Move felt like working out with someone who actually cared about my goals.”

“I finished the Dopey Challenge pain-free — on my birthday.”

“With Emily’s help, I was able to finish the entire Dopey Challenge — pain-free — and it was on my birthday!

She even checked in during the races, texting me stretches and cheering me on. When I developed plantar fasciitis afterward, she didn’t skip a beat. She just said, ‘Okay, we’re focusing on the foot now,’ and had a plan ready.”

“Working with her has been a 20-out-of-10 experience. She’s positive, supportive, and genuinely cares about how you’re doing — physically and mentally. Every session felt like progress. She helped me find hope when I didn’t have it.”

Now, Bianca’s training for her next big challenge — a Half Ironman.
“Exercise is how I bring joy into my life. It’s not just what I do; it’s who I am. Knowing I have Made 2 Move in my corner means I can keep doing what I love, no matter what happens.”

She smiles. “If you’re skeptical about PT, don’t be. This isn’t the cold, clinical version you might imagine. At Made 2 Move, you’re not just fixing pain — you’re learning how strong you really are.”
